Earthworks

Natural Building, Elevated by Design

At Helix Habitat, Earthworks is more than construction – it’s a craft. We combine ancient building materials with modern design practices to create sustainable, sculptural, and high-performance structures. Every project is custom-designed, engineered for longevity, and finished with the level of detail your vision deserves.

Below are the four core Earthworks systems we offer, each with its own design language, material qualities, and creative possibilities.

Rammed Earth

Strength. Sculptural beauty. Geological durability.

Rammed earth walls are architectural statements — monolithic, elegant, and naturally temperature-stable. We custom-blend soils, aggregates, and pigments to achieve the exact tone, texture, and stratification you envision. From minimalist modern slabs to dramatic sediment-layered gradients, the aesthetic is endlessly customizable.

Design & Customization Options

  • Custom color banding, striations, and mineral layers
  • Carved niches, built-in shelving, and recessed alcoves
  • Integration of glass, wood, or steel detailing
  • Formwork designed for curved or faceted geometry
  • Choice of sealed, honed, or raw matte surface finishes

Rammed earth lends itself beautifully to feature walls, structural cores, passive-solar designs, and eco-luxury interiors.

Earthcrete

Natural concrete with character — sustainable, moldable, and incredibly flexible.

Earthcrete blends clay, sand, aggregate, and natural binders to produce a low-carbon alternative to conventional concrete. Unlike industrial mixes, Earthcrete has a warm, earthy aesthetic that can be refined, polished, or left rugged depending on the design intention.

Design & Customization Options

  • Custom pigmenting, from subtle warm neutrals to deep, dramatic tones
  • Smooth, burnished finishes or textured, rustic surfaces
  • Sculpted forms, earthen countertops, and organic-flowing shapes
  • Integrated thermal mass elements for passive heating/cooling
  • Decorative inlays of stone, glass, or metal

Earthcrete is ideal for floors, benches, structural forms, hearths, and sculptural interior architecture.

Hempcrete

Lightweight. Breathable. Healthy.

Hempcrete delivers unparalleled indoor comfort and air quality. Mold-resistant, carbon-sequestering, and naturally insulating, it creates a soft, warm visual tone that complements modern and naturalistic interior designs.

Design & Customization Options

  • Custom wall thicknesses and insulation values
  • Smooth lime-plaster finishes or textured organic surfaces
  • Curved walls and flowing geometry with lightweight formwork
  • Embedded niches, channels, or custom architectural reliefs
  • Pairing with timber, steel, or glass structural systems

Hempcrete is perfect for full wall assemblies, acoustic walls, thermal envelopes, and wellness-focused interior spaces.

Cob & Strawbale

Organic form meets structural warmth.

Cob and Strawbale construction allow for the most artistic expression of all earth-building methods. Rounded corners, sculptural walls, and tactile textures are inherent to these materials. Strawbale offers exceptional insulation, while cob allows deep, hand-carved detailing and truly free-form design.

Design & Customization Options

  • Flowing, hand-shaped walls with natural curves
  • Sculptural reliefs, built-in seating, shelves, and art elements
  • Smooth clay plasters or richly textured natural finishes
  • Thick, super-insulated walls for ultra-efficient homes
  • Hybrid systems combining cob, bale, timber, and rammed earth

These systems are ideal for expressive architecture, cozy interiors, studios, cottages, wellness structures, and artistic feature spaces.
